Finally....You are being noticed

It was a normal day for me, not trying very hard as usual considering I will be leaving SK Oil soon. The department was preparing for  a month-long events for HSE Month plan in November. I was perhaps the most underutilized experienced staff in term of getting involved in the managing the event. I was actually selected to work with Noi, on HSE Learning and required to identify the subject bases on selection of topics in the HSE Learning. Upon boss requeat, I was also assigned to rope in Project Team to be involved in the HSE Learning. Not much of an issue as it require you to contact some focal person in project team. Lately, my thoughts will always to give the youngsters the chance to involve more in managing the activities as it requires more stamina in view that I am very lacking in that department.
Later on Tuesday morning, I was called up by my boss Hj Tarmizi to BSE Meeting room. He broke a news that an incident happened in the office, and I was assigned by him to be the investigation team member. What, again in a one moth time, I had to attend two incident investigations. It was either the boss really trusted me with my capability or there was nobody else in my section to become the team member. I hesitantly agreed to it, and immediately together with him, we went to the incident scene. Little that I know that our MD also would be there. to join us. After the short visit to the incident scene and briefed by the witnesses on the incident, the group gather outside the MD Office.
As more information have been gathered, MD decided an investigation team consisting of the Dept and Section Heads to be setup. I was informed by my boss, that I will be the tripodean for the team. It will be the first time that I will be in close contact with the MD in my 5 years working experience in SKO. Other than rubbing shoulders with him during HSE events conducted in office, the closest encounter that I have with him was during my presentation on handwritten Job Hazard Analysis presentation in SKOHSEC chaired by him in 2013.
It didn't take a long time for the team to have the first meeting considering the case will become the MD priority. Target to complete the investigation have been set by the Team Leader, En. Zaroon, Head of Engineering and we were told that the MD need the incident findings to be shared with him from time to time, not to wait until it completed. Knowing what to expect in front of us, I am taking the task seriously and will have just to forget about other tasks in my hands including the preparation for my "retirement".
As the week progress, I realized how the MD has shown his commitment that any incident happened in Sarawak Operations, he is the accountable person. He personally came down to our office looking for me to join him in a session with all the Administrative staff, the owner of the incident. I was surprised as soon I realized that he was next to my workstation asking my Section Head of my whereabouts. He asked me to join him as I am the Focal Person of the Work Procedure, the PTW system where the procedure deemed to fail at the day of the incident.
On the 7th working days, after many hours interviewing witnesses, analysing the evidences, we finally have the final report ready. A special session was convened where the incident report was presented to the other SKO Leadership Team. I am the only one to join the team leader during the presentation and from time to time shared information asked by the LT when the Team Leader require assistance. Everything went well when En Zaroon finished his presentation, and I remember that MD at the end of the session asked me to ensure the implementation of PTW will be aligned back to procedure.
It was supposed to be my last day in SKO in 2016, Friday. I just came back from long sick leaves after undergoing Kidney Stones removal procedure in KL. Right after Jummat Prayer, Hj Tarmizi informed that BD, En Nazori wanted me to see him on the follow-ups of the incidents. I have been informed that Hj Tarmizi has told BD that Nor Hashima, Office SHO will follow up on the recommendations identified in the report, and yet En Nazori insisted for me to brief him. I have tried to set an appointment to meet him before 3pm, as I had planned to leave office around that time, however his time was fully booked. Quickly I set a meeting with the Administrative boss, BAM to discuss with him BD's request. We discussed all the things that I thought have been requested by BD, based on my presumption that BD wanted to know the status of the follow-ups. I have given few more feedbacks to BAM on the thing that we could do more to enhance the controls of PTW implementation. After writing down salient points of discussion, I send it through email to BAM asking him to share the notes  with BD later. As I was about to leave the office, I accidentally bumped into En. Nazori in front of BSE Meeting Room, and immediately he asked whether can he proceed to lift the sanction of civil works during weekend. Then only I realized that he wanted an assurance from me whether it is safe to start work on weekends. That question caught me, as the things which has been discussed with BAM did not consider the control of contractors' work during weekends. After giving some thoughts to his query I just reply to him that I still do not have the confidence. My main point was that until BAM has setup the flow or procedure on how to manage the entry of contractors during weekends, I have doubts that the issue will be under control. As I was explaining to BD, En Tarmizi joined the discussion. BD told him that I still have doubts about the control in place and thus he will not agree to proceed with contractors work. The building maintenance engineer, the custodion of the work was trying really hard to get BD to approve lifting the sanction, but she failed. En. Nazori was very firmed and at one point became sarcastic to her. He pointed out that due to the incidence, BAM should take the responsibility of delayed project and suspension of the maintenance job, which resulted in the equipment not working efficiently. Well said BD. That is what En Nazori that we all know.
After the discussion, my focus turned back to my target for the day, which was to bid good-bye to everyone. It will be the end of 2016 chapter. Although I did not receive a proper farewell, at least at the end of my stay in SKO, finally I was being noticed by the BD.

Appreciation moment for En. Nazori Janor
